Throw Throbbing Gristle into that as well... The mid-seventies saw
tracks that could still be played today in a "Techno" set. Also, a lot
of things that I would call IDM today, I called "Intelligent Techno" a
few years back. I guess the question is this, if you were MP3.com, where
would you put IDM?

Well, if you're gonna get all historical about it, techno is not
(chronologically) the grandaddy of all modern electronic music genres.
House
has been around in one form or another since the fall of disco, and
unless
you count kraftwerk as being the techno genre unto themselves, it
predates
what most would consider techno.
So IDM should be listed under house now? :)
